In a post-conviction hearing for Kirstin Blaise Lobato, who was convicted in the 2001 murder of a homeless man, defense attorneys presented affidavits from several forensic entomologists stating that there were no signs of fly activity on the victim’s corpse, which had allegedly been lying outside for hours in the summer heat. The State, however, argues that the defense’s expert witnesses could not know how blowflies in Las Vegas behave in comparison to blowflies in other regions. Read more.
