The newly released personnel file of Marco Palacio, a latent print examiner who has since been removed from his lab, has revealed that the Orange County Sheriff’s Office had documented performance issues as early as 2015—without notifying the State Attorney’s Office. The former fingerprint analyst’s most recent supervisor told The Orlando Sentinel that Palacio’s work was too reliant on an automated fingerprint identification tool and that he failed to not discrepancies in fingerprints that could “result in the wrong person being identified or excluded.” Read more.
